NYPD Seeks Public Help in Manhattan ATM Grand Larceny Pattern After Fourth Incident

NEW YORK, NY - The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance after detectives identified a fourth incident in an ongoing Manhattan ATM grand larceny pattern, targeting victims inside commercial establishments across multiple precincts.


According to police, the most recent incident occurred on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., inside a business located at 270 Seventh Avenue within the 10th Precinct.


Fourth ATM Theft Reported in Chelsea Area


Investigators say a 28-year-old woman was using an ATM when an unidentified male suspect approached her from behind and snatched her wallet from her hand. The suspect immediately fled the location northbound on Seventh Avenue and escaped on foot.



No injuries were reported.


Surveillance media from this incident has been obtained by detectives and is now available through the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI).


Pattern of ATM Larcenies Across Manhattan


Police believe this incident is part of a larger grand larceny pattern involving ATM users, particularly those who may be vulnerable or distracted while handling cash.


The earlier incidents occurred within the confines of the 13th Precinct and Midtown South Precinct, spanning late December 2025 through early January 2026.


Incident #1 – December 31, 2025 (13th Precinct)


At approximately 2:25 a.m., a 46-year-old man using crutches was withdrawing money from an ATM at 251 East 28th Street when the suspect allegedly snatched $100 directly from the victim’s hand before fleeing on foot.


Incident #2 – January 1, 2026 (13th Precinct)


On New Year’s Day at around 10:30 a.m., an 81-year-old woman using a wheelchair was inside 765 Sixth Avenuewhen the suspect reportedly stole a wallet containing approximately $175 from her bag.


Incident #3 – January 9, 2026 (Midtown South Precinct)


At approximately 10:25 a.m., a 66-year-old man was using an ATM inside 215 West 34th Street when the suspect allegedly snatched $320 from his hand and fled eastbound on West 34th Street.


No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.


The suspect wanted in connection with the Manhattan ATM grand larceny pattern is described as:


  • Male with a dark complexion


  • Approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall


  • Last seen wearing:


  • A beige hat


  • Dark-colored jacket


  • Black pants


  • White sneakers


Police say surveillance images from all four incidents are available and may help identify the individual.
