NYPD Seeks Help Identifying Suspect in Midtown Manhattan Subway Forcible Touching Case



NYPD seeks public help identifying a suspect wanted for a forcible touching incident on a Midtown Manhattan subway train at Times Square.

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with a forcible touching incident on a Midtown Manhattan subway train, according to authorities.


Police say the incident occurred Monday morning, January 5, 2026, at approximately 8:45 a.m., inside the 7th Avenue–West 42 Street subway station, a major transit hub serving Times Square commuters.



According to the NYPD, a 24-year-old woman was riding a southbound Number 3 train when an unidentified man allegedly placed his hand under her coat and grabbed her leg and crotch. The suspect then fled the train and escaped on foot, heading in an unknown direction. Before the perv got away, his picture was snapped by a straphanger’s cellphone. Investigators released the photo in an attempt to gain tips leading to the suspect’s arrest.


Police confirmed that no physical injuries were reported, but the incident is being investigated as a forcible touching crime on public transportation, a serious offense under New York law.


Investigators have released a description in hopes that commuters or nearby workers may recognize the individual. The subway assault suspect is described as:


  • Male


  • Dark complexion


  • Approximately 35 to 40 years old


  • Medium build


  • About 5 feet 7 inches tall


  • Approximately 170 pounds


  • Black hair


At the time of the incident, the man was reportedly wearing a black jacket and carrying a black book bag.
