Celebrating Home Health Aides! Local Job Fairs Bring New Opportunity to Manhattan, Yonkers, Staten Island and Nassau County

Visiting Nurse Service of New York is currently hosting a series of Open Hiring Events for VNSNY Partners in Care, the largest not-for-profit employer of certified Home Health Aides in the New York metropolitan region. 


Each free event will be a celebratory occasion where attendees have a chance to meet and talk directly with Partners in Care managers to hear about the many different positions available. They’ll also get a chance to speak to home health aides themselves about their experiences on the job.


Home health aides often spend more time with patients than other members of a home care team. From assisting with activities of daily living, to checking vital signs or simply sharing a conversation, they help their clients stay comfortable and live their lives to the fullest. All who work at Partners in Care as a home health aide will receive thorough training to develop skills necessary to be successful in the role and continue their professional growth.


“We’re excited to meet new and talented workers at our job fairs this summer,” said James Rolla, SVP who heads up VNSNY Partners in Care. “The contribution our home health aides make in the lives of their clients is essential and quite meaningful, and, as we saw in NYC’s recent Hometown Heroes Tickertape Parade, the role of our healthcare workers has never been more vital—especially considering workforce shortages caused by the pandemic.”


All are encouraged to come to one of the “Celebrating Home Health Aides” events listed below, and everyone is welcome, whether they are already certified as a HHA, or wishing to become certified. Those with gaps in their resume, mature job-seekers looking to reenter the workforce and bilingual applicants whose primary language is not English are all encouraged to attend. 


There will be snacks and giveaways at all events.

Antibacterial Regimen Treats Skin Problems from Radiation Treatment for Cancer

Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center Study Shows that a Low-cost Antibacterial Regimen Can Prevent Acute Radiation Dermatitis   BRONX - Acute radiation dermatitis (ARD)—characterized by red, sore, itchy or peeling skin—affects up to 95% of people undergoing radiation treatment for cancer. Severe cases can cause significant swelling and painful skin ulcers that can severely impair quality of life, yet little is known about why this condition occurs and no standardized treatments for preventing severe ARD have been widely adapted.   Researchers at Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center (MECC) have found that many cases of ARD involve a common skin bacterium and that a simple, low-cost treatment can prevent severe cases, potentially setting a new standard of care for people undergoing radiation therapy. Their findings were reported in two papers published today in JAMA Oncology . Each year, 10 million people are treated with radiation therapy to reduce the size of their tumors.

Cops Looking for 5 Women who Beat Ride Share Drivers  Police are searching for 5 women who are suspected of stealing a car and beating at least 3 people. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Manhattan Voice June 1, 2023  MANHATTAN - SUVs and pot gummies are on the menu for an all-female robbery crew who beat ride share drivers and store clerks to get what they want, cops said. Police released the photos of the 5 suspects who are accused of stealing at least 1 SUV.   Investigators said the same crew ran a two-day, two-borough crime spree to steal everything from edibles and headphones, to a car.  According to cops, the robberies started at around 2 am on May 21 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. A 44-year-old for hire driver had parked his 2017 Toyota Rav 4 in front of 374 Ralph Avenue.
