Man Beaten, Stabbed in Random Attack in Manhattan

Memorial Day Stabbing Inside Park in the Bowery Leaves Residents Shocked for the Randomness of Attack

MANHATTAN - A Memorial Day random attack saw a man beaten and stabbed inside a park in the Bowery. 

At around 1 pm on May 29, a 24-year-old man was inside Sara D. Roosevelt Park, opposite 68A Forsyth Street. Cops say an unknown man walked up to the victim and punched him in the face. Then he began to repeatedly slash the victim with an unknown object.  

The attacker then fled on a black bicycle. He was last seen heading westbound on Hester Street. 

The victim was rushed by EMS to Bellevue Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. 

Police did not provide a motive for the vicious attack. One news report described the suspect as a thief and suggested the beating and stabbing could have stemmed from a robbery attempt. However, police have not confirmed any robbery or any other motive. 

Police released a photo of the suspect from inside the park. He is a man with a dark complexion who is between 30 and 40 years of age. He was last seen wearing a black sweat shirt, black shorts and black sneakers.
