NEW YORK - A mugging victim, who was badly beaten, appealed to a “Good Samaritan” who ended up stealing his cell phone, cops said.

At around 3:30 am on August 6, a 27-year-old was on Horatio Street in the Meat Packing District. Cops said three men walked up to him and began pushing and punching the victim. The group beat the victim repeatedly about the body.

The victim broke free and approached a fourth man who he thought was a bystander. He gave the “Good Samaritan” his cellphone and asked him to call 911 for help. Instead the “bystander” took the phone and ran off with the three other attackers. They all piled into a sedan. The car was last seen driving eastbound on Horatio Street.

Police released surveillance video taken from inside a nearby bodega.
