Hate Crime Attackers Arrested - Cops Said

NEW YORK - Cops arrested three teenagers who allegedly beat a 72-year-old man and made anti-LGBTQ remarks. The victim suffered a broken jaw in the attack.
Police arrested three teenage males ages 13, 14 and 16. Each was charged with gang assault, criminal possession of a weapon and hate crime - assault.
Police did not release the names of the three suspects because they were all minors.
At around 10:15 pm on September 15, a 72-year-old man was walking in the Flatiron District. In front of West 17 Street and 9th Avenue he was approached by three teenage males.
The teens began making anti-LGBTQ remarks and then assaulted the senior, cops said. The teens then began punching and kicking the victim. Cops said the attackers also repeatedly struck the elderly man with various objects.
The attackers fled on foot.
The victim was taken to an area hospital by private means. Cops said he suffered a broken jaw and lacerations to his face and hands.
An investigation by the NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force led to cops recovering surveillance video of the suspects.
Police announced the arrests of the suspects today.
