Early Morning Assault and Vehicle Theft Reported Near 9th Avenue and 42nd Street Subway Station

New York City - An early morning assault and theft near Midtown Manhattan has prompted a police investigation after a 65-year-old man was attacked outside a building on 9th Avenue and robbed of property from his vehicle.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 1:50 am on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in front of 542 9th Avenue, just steps from the 42nd Street subway station. The victim was reportedly standing outside the location when an unidentified individual approached and struck him in the face without warning.
After the assault, the suspect allegedly removed property from the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot into the 42nd Street Subway Station, a major transit hub serving multiple lines.
Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene for minor injuries, and he declined further medical transport, authorities said.

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect, who is described as:

- Dark complexion
- Short hair
- Last seen wearing:
- Black jacket
- Black shirt
- Black jeans
- White sneakers
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
