NEW YORK CITY — December 20, 2025 — The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an individual wanted in connection with a subway assault on a southbound 6 trainin Midtown Manhattan, authorities said.


According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., within the jurisdiction of the 17th Precinct and Transit District 4, near the Lexington Avenue–51 Street subway station.


What Happened on the Southbound 6 Train


Investigators say a 38-year-old male was riding a southbound 6 train when he became involved in a verbal dispute with an unknown individual. The disagreement escalated, and the situation turned physical.


Police report that the suspect produced a sharp object, causing a laceration to the victim’s head. The suspect then fled the subway station on foot in an unknown direction.


Emergency medical services responded, and the victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was treated and listed in stable condition, according to officials.


NYPD Releases Suspect Description


The NYPD has released a description of the individual they are seeking in connection with the NYC subway assault investigation:

  • Complexion: Dark


  • Last seen wearing: Dark sweatshirt and a green hat


Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the station and train and are urging anyone who may recognize the individual or witnessed the incident to contact authorities.
