A 51-year-old man was stabbed multiple times during an early morning dispute at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station in Manhattan, police say

NEW YORK, NY - A 51-year-old man is recovering after being stabbed multiple times during an early morning incident inside the Broadway-Lafayette subway station, according to police.
The stabbing happened around 5:11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in the mezzanine level of the Broadway-Lafayette Station in Manhattan. Authorities say the victim became involved in a verbal dispute with an unidentified man while inside the station.
As the victim attempted to exit the station, the situation escalated.
Police report that the suspect approached the victim from behind and stabbed him multiple times in the back with a knife. After the attack, the suspect fled the station on foot, traveling in an unknown direction.
Emergency medical services responded quickly and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the individual involved. The suspect is described as:
- Male
- Light complexion
- Approximately in his 30s
- About 6 feet 4 inches tall
- Last seen wearing all black clothing
No arrests have been made as of publication, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The stabbing adds to growing concerns about early morning subway safety in Manhattan, particularly during off-peak hours when platforms and mezzanine areas are less crowded. Police have not indicated whether surveillance footage from the station has been recovered but say detectives are continuing to canvass the area.
