NEW YORK, NY - A routine Friday night at a downtown movie theater turned violent when rowdy moviegoers allegedly assaulted two security guards after being escorted out of the building, according to police.

The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. December 19, 2025 at the Regal movie theater located at 850 Broadway, where two security employees — ages 29 and 37 — were working inside the theater when they were forced to remove four disruptive individuals.

Police say the situation escalated once the group was escorted outside.

According to the report, one of the unidentified individuals punched the 29-year-old security guard in the face, knocking off his hat during the assault. Almost simultaneously, another individual struck the 37-year-old guard in the face and removed his watch before fleeing.

The attack left both security guards shaken but conscious. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and treated the victims on site. Neither victim required transport to a hospital.

The suspects fled the Regal theater on foot, heading in unknown directions. No arrests have been made, and police say the four individuals remain unidentified.

Incidents involving assaults on movie theater security guards have raised concerns among employees and patrons alike, especially during busy weekend hours. Security staff are often tasked with de-escalating disruptive behavior, a role that can quickly turn dangerous.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the assault at the Regal Broadway location or who has video footage to contact police.
