The incident happened at around 3:13 p.m. at the 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center subway station in Midtown Manhattan — one of the busiest commuter transit points in New York City.
According to the NYPD, multiple suspects approached the two boys inside the subway station and displayed both a knife and a firearm during the robbery.
The teens — a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old — were reportedly robbed and suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. Police have described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
Witnesses in the station said passengers scattered as the suspects brandished weapons, creating chaos in the normally bustling commuter hub.
One suspect was taken into custody shortly after the robbery, the NYPD confirmed. However, officers are still searching for additional suspects believed to have fled the scene.
