NEW YORK, NY - Cops are looking for a creep seen carrying crutches who, they say, viciously pummelled an 81-year-old man on the Upper West Side.


According to the NYPD, the incident occurred Sunday morning, February 8, 2026, at approximately 8:45 a.m., within the confines of the NYPD 20th Precinct.



Police say an 81-year-old man was walking in front of 2049 Broadway when an unidentified individual suddenly approached him and punched him multiple times in the face. The attack happened in broad daylight and appeared to be unprovoked.


After the assault, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading southbound on Amsterdam Avenue, authorities said.


Emergency Medical Services responded, and the victim was treated by EMS at the 20th Precinct. His condition has not been publicly disclosed.




Investigators are now asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual depicted in the attached media, which was released as part of the ongoing investigation.


The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made at this time.




The NYPD released surveillance video taken from inside a local grocery store. The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion and medium build. He was last seen holding silver crutches. He was last seen wearing a black puffy winter coat and a dark brown Carhartt knit cap. He also wore black sneakers and held another jacket or bag around his waist that was black with red trim. 





Crimes involving elderly victims are treated with heightened urgency, particularly when they occur in public spaces during peak pedestrian hours. The NYPD continues to emphasize community awareness and timely reporting as key factors in identifying suspects quickly.


Residents and businesses in the Upper West Side, especially those near Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, are encouraged to review security footage from the morning of February 8, 2026.
