Police say the early morning street robberies in Washington Heights NYC have raised concerns among residents, particularly because both attacks happened during overnight hours and targeted men walking alone.
According to investigators from the 33rd Precinct, the first robbery occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m. A 26-year-old man was walking in front of 604 West 158 Street when he was approached by two unidentified individuals.
Police report that one of the suspects struck the victim in the head and arm with a bat, causing him to lose consciousness. The attackers then forcibly removed approximately $2,000 in cash and a cellphone valued at about $250 before fleeing eastbound on West 158 Street in a black sedan.
Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
Just one week later, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at approximately 4:14 a.m., a second robbery occurred steps away, in front of 605 West 158 Street.
This time, a 43-year-old man was approached by the same two suspects. One displayed a firearm and struck the victim, while both individuals punched and kicked him repeatedly. The suspects forcibly removed jewelry valued at approximately $2,600 and cash totaling around $3,000 before fleeing westbound on foot.
Investigators are treating the incidents as a robbery pattern investigation in Manhattan’s 33rd Precinct, noting the similarities in location, timing, and suspect descriptions.
Police describe the two sought individuals as males with a medium complexion. No further physical descriptions have been released at this time.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the area as part of the NYPD investigation into violent street assaults in Upper Manhattan.
Residents are urged to remain alert during late-night and early-morning hours, particularly near West 158 Street, as police continue investigating the Washington Heights armed robbery and assault cases.
