NEW YORK, NY - The NYPD has released surveillance photos of a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a homeless man inside a Midtown Manhattan convenience store — a brazen act of violence that has shaken the neighborhood and sparked an urgent manhunt.

Authorities say the deadly shooting happened inside a 7-Eleven located at 589 Eighth Avenue, near West 39th Street, in the heart of Midtown New York City. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Mark Jackson, was pronounced dead after suffering a gunshot wound during a late-morning confrontation at a Midtown NYC 7-Eleven store.

Police describe the suspect as a man wearing a black sweater, multicolored pants, gray shoes, and a face mask. He was also carrying a backpack at the time of the incident. Newly released images show the individual inside the store shortly before the shooting.

According to investigators, after the gunfire erupted, the suspect fled the scene and was later seen inside a subway car. Surveillance video capturing the suspect on public transit is now a critical piece of evidence as detectives work to track his movements through Manhattan in what authorities are calling a fatal Midtown Manhattan convenience store shooting investigation.

Police sources say Mark Jackson was known in the area and often held the door open for customers at the 7-Eleven while asking for spare change. Jackson allegedly got into an argument with the suspect while standing at the entrance.

Authorities believe the verbal dispute escalated quickly. Moments later, shots were fired inside the store in what investigators describe as a deadly argument that led to a fatal shooting inside a Manhattan convenience store.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene. Crime scene tape surrounded the storefront as detectives gathered evidence. Jackson’s body remained inside the store for several hours while investigators processed the scene before it was eventually removed on a gurney, marking a grim scene in the fatal shooting of a homeless man in Midtown NYC.

The fatal shooting of a homeless man inside a busy Manhattan 7-Eleven has raised renewed concerns about public safety and violence in commercial corridors. Midtown is one of the most heavily trafficked areas in New York City, packed with commuters, tourists, and local workers.

Detectives are reviewing store surveillance footage, nearby building cameras, and MTA video to piece together the suspect’s path after fleeing. Officials have not yet announced a motive beyond the initial dispute
