NEW YORK, NY - A woman dressed like she was part of an outdoor cheer event is instead wanted by cops for allegedly bashing a man upside the head with a glass bottle in an attempt to rob him.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 2:05 a.m. on the northbound platform of the N/Q/R train line.
A 40-year-old male victim was reportedly approached from behind and struck in the back of the head with a glass bottle by an unidentified individual.
The sudden attack caused the victim to suffer a laceration to the back of his head. Emergency services responded, and the victim was transported to Mount Sinai Queens for treatment of minor injuries, where he was later released. No additional injuries were reported.
Police say the suspect fled the Times Square subway station after the attempted robbery and ran off to parts unknown. The incident took place within the confines of the NYPD 14 Precinct and Transit District 1, which oversee much of the Times Square area and surrounding transit corridors.
The individual being sought is described by authorities as a female suspect with a light complexion. At the time of the incident, she was last seen wearing a silver jacket, black pants, and black shoes. Investigators are reviewing available evidence and encouraging subway riders who witnessed the incident or recognize the individual to come forward.
The NYPD emphasizes that even small details can be helpful, particularly given the heavy foot traffic and surveillance coverage at the Times Square subway station. Attempted robbery incidents in New York City subways during late-night hours remain an ongoing concern.
