NEW YORK, NY - Police say the suspect accused of raping a teenage girl in Stuyvesant Town is now in custody—thanks to old-fashioned police work, public tips, and a coordinated manhunt that stretched from Manhattan to upstate New York.

The NYPD confirmed Wednesday that Germaine Parham, a 33-year-old homeless man with an extensive criminal history, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged in connection with the brutal sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Stuy Town last week.

Authorities say Parham was tracked down in Amsterdam, New York, roughly 30 miles northwest of Albany, after fleeing the city in the days following the alleged attack.

According to police, the assault occurred Thursday, January 29, 2026, at approximately 11:42 a.m., near First Avenue and the First Avenue Loop in Stuyvesant Town.

Investigators allege that Parham approached the 14-year-old victim, sexually assaulted her, and then stole her cell phone before fleeing on foot. The victim was later transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The case sparked immediate concern among residents and prompted the NYPD to flood the area with patrols while detectives canvassed the neighborhood for surveillance footage and witnesses.

As part of the investigation, police released photos of the suspect, highlighting a distinctive afro hairstyle that detectives believed would help generate leads. The images circulated widely, and authorities say tips from the public proved critical in identifying Parham and tracking his movements after he left the city.

Sources say investigators quickly determined Parham had fled upstate, triggering the involvement of the NYPD Fugitive Task Force, working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Parham was taken into custody without incident.

Photos from the arrest show Parham with a closely shaved head, a stark contrast from the hairstyle featured in the NYPD’s wanted images—an apparent attempt, police say, to avoid recognition.

Parham was formally arrested within the confines of the NYPD’s 5th Precinct and faces a sweeping list of charges, including:

  • Rape (5 counts)

  • Sexual Abuse (6 counts)

  • Predatory Sexual Assault

  • Kidnapping

  • Robbery

  • Attempted Assault

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon

Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Parham is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Law enforcement sources say Parham has a long rap sheet, including multiple arrests tied to drugstore robberies across New York City.

Most recently, he was arrested January 8 for allegedly stealing roughly $1,835 worth of merchandise from a CVS in Midtown Manhattan. That case resulted in a bench warrant after Parham failed to return to court.

In November 2025, Parham was sentenced to 30 days in jail for a knifepoint robbery at a Bronx CVS, according to sources familiar with his record.

Police say the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence and determining whether Parham may be connected to other incidents.

NYPD officials credited the combination of rapid investigative work and public cooperation for bringing the suspect into custody and urged anyone with additional information to contact authorities.
