NEW YORK, NY - Police have made an arrest after a man was found unconscious on a busy subway platform at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan, an incident that later turned fatal and is now under investigation by authorities.

According to police, officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday after reports of a man found unconscious on a Penn Station subway platform in Midtown Manhattan. The 55-year-old victim was discovered in the northbound waiting area for the C and E subway lines at the station and was immediately transported by emergency responders to Lenox Hill Hospital.

Doctors attempted to save the man, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity as they work to notify family members.

On Sunday, police confirmed that Nassadir Tate, a 21-year-old from Hillside, New Jersey, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Authorities say Tate has been charged with assault in what investigators describe as an assault investigation connected to a fatal incident at a Penn Station subway platform. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether additional charges could be filed following the victim’s death.

At this stage, police have not released details about what led to the alleged assault at the Penn Station C and E subway platform, and it remains unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other before the encounter.

The incident occurred inside one of the busiest transit centers in the United States. Penn Station, located beneath Madison Square Garden, serves hundreds of thousands of commuters daily and connects multiple subway lines, commuter rail systems, and regional trains.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage as part of the ongoing investigation into a man found dead on a Penn Station subway platform in Midtown Manhattan. Authorities are also speaking with potential witnesses to better understand what happened in the moments before the man was found unconscious.

Police have not yet said whether the victim suffered visible injuries or if the death will be ruled a homicide pending the results of an autopsy.

Authorities are expected to release additional details as the case develops, including updates in the investigation of the fatal Penn Station subway platform incident in Midtown Manhattan.
