Panhandler Shoves Man Off Subway Platform when He Didn’t Pay Him

NEW YORK, NY - A panhandler turned into a subway shover when he pushed a straphanger off a busy train platform because the commuter would not give him change, cops said.
According to police, the incident happened on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at around 3:44 p.m. at the Dyckman Street subway station on the southbound A train platform in Inwood. Investigators say a 35-year-old man was standing on the platform when he was approached by an unidentified individual.
Authorities report that the suspect began engaging the victim in conversation. However, when the man chose to walk away, the situation quickly escalated. Police say the suspect suddenly shoved the victim onto the subway tracks in what officials are describing as a random attack pushing man onto subway tracks in Manhattan.
In a frightening turn of events, the victim managed to pull himself back onto the platform just before an oncoming train arrived. Officials say he sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Law enforcement sources indicate that the suspect may have been asking people on the platform for money prior to the assault. The victim reportedly refused to give him cash, which may have triggered the attack, highlighting concerns about subway panhandling incident turns violent in NYC transit system.
After pushing the victim onto the tracks, the suspect fled the station on foot in an unknown direction. As of now, he remains at large.
