NYPD Seeks Suspect in Lower East Side Assault After Victims Followed from M14 Bus

NEW YORK, NY - Cops are trying to find a hard hat hater who struck a teen in the head with a construction helmet after he followed the couple from the bus in Alphabet City.


According to police, the assault occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. In what authorities are calling the East 10th Street Avenue C crime February 2026, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man had just exited an M14 Bus when they were approached by an unidentified individual.







Authorities say the suspect followed the pair after they got off the bus. Without warning, the individual allegedly struck the 18-year-old woman in the head using a construction hard hat.





After the attack, the 19-year-old male attempted to chase the suspect. During the pursuit, the suspect reportedly displayed a knife, forcing the victim to back off. The individual then fled on foot and remains at large in what police are continuing to investigate as part of this NYC assault suspect Lower East Side investigation.


Police say the female victim suffered minor head injuries and was treated following the incident.


The NYPD has released a description of the suspect in hopes that someone in the community may recognize him. He is described as a male with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a bright yellow jacket and also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Investigators note that this description aligns with reports of a man with a yellow jacket wanted NYC assault, and are urging the public to remain alert.





The case is currently being handled by officers assigned to the 9th Precinct, which covers parts of the East Village and Lower East Side. Investigators are working to determine the suspect’s identity and track his movements after fleeing the scene in this developing 9th Precinct investigation news report.
