NYPD Seeks Suspect in Unprovoked Assault at Columbus Circle Subway Station in Midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY - A woman is recovering after being smashed in the face by a man who attacked her at the Columbus Circle subway station, cops said.


According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 11:55 a.m., on the mezzanine level of the station. A 21-year-old woman was reportedly approached by an unknown individual without warning.


Authorities say the man punched the victim in the face with a closed fist in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. The victim suffered minor injuries to the right side of her face and was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel. She did not require hospitalization.




After the assault, the suspect fled the station on foot in an unknown direction, leaving investigators searching for leads.


Police have released a description of the individual and are urging anyone who may recognize him to come forward. The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, a blue sweater, red pants and multi-colored sneakers.


Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from the station as part of the ongoing investigation.





The Columbus Circle subway station, located near major landmarks and heavily trafficked by commuters and tourists, has long been considered a key transit point in Manhattan.
