NEW YORK, NY - A quiet stretch of Hell’s Kitchen turned into an active crime scene early Thursday morning after a violent attack left one man dead and another hospitalized. Cops are looking for a third man whom they say is a “person of interest.”

According to police, the incident unfolded at approximately 4:47 a.m. on April 23, 2026, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault outside a homeless shelter on 9th Avenue. What they found was a disturbing scene that has since sparked an ongoing investigation.

Authorities say the “early morning stabbing outside 771 9th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen” took place just steps from the Urban Pathways 9th Avenue Drop-In Center, a facility that provides 24/7 services for people experiencing homelessness.

When officers arrived, they discovered two men suffering from multiple stab wounds. One victim, described as an unidentified adult male, had sustained severe injuries to his torso. The second victim, a 34-year-old man, suffered multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

Emergency medical services rushed both men to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where doctors worked to save their lives. Tragically, the unidentified man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The surviving victim remains in stable condition, according to officials.

Investigators are now piecing together what led to the “fatal double stabbing near Urban Pathways Drop-In Center Manhattan”, a location known for serving vulnerable populations. While the motive remains unclear, police have confirmed they are searching for a person of interest.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on a bicycle, heading southbound along 9th Avenue. Authorities describe him as wearing a blue jacket and blue pants.

This case adds to growing concerns about safety in the neighborhood, particularly around facilities that operate around the clock. The “violent assault near homeless shelter in Midtown Manhattan early morning hours” has raised questions among residents and advocates about security measures and support systems in place.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

As more details emerge, authorities are expected to provide updates on both the condition of the surviving victim and the efforts to identify the deceased man.
