NEW YORK, NY - Cops are looking for cold-blooded attacker who stabbed a man inside a subway car and then casually sat back down and road the train uptown.

According to police, the incident happened during the early morning hours of May 11, 2026, at approximately 1:50 a.m. inside the 96 Street subway station within the confines of the 26 Precinct and Transit District 3.

Authorities say a 57-year-old man was riding aboard a northbound “2” subway train when an unidentified individual approached him and became involved in a verbal dispute. The confrontation quickly escalated when the suspect allegedly displayed a sharp instrument and stabbed the victim multiple times in the abdomen.

The victim managed to exit the train and was later transported by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside. Police said the man was listed in stable condition following the attack.

Meanwhile, investigators say the suspect stayed aboard the train after the stabbing and later exited at the 125 Street–Lenox Avenue subway station before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Police describe the wanted individual as a dark-complexioned male who was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, gray sweater, dark-colored pants, gray hat, and white sneakers.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify and locate the suspect involved in what officials are calling a serious subway assault in Manhattan.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns surrounding overnight subway safety in New York City, particularly along heavily traveled train lines in Upper Manhattan and the West Side corridor. Transit riders have continued voicing concerns over violent encounters occurring during late-night commuting hours.
