Senior Sucker Punched on Central Park West

NEW YORK, NY - A senior sucker punched on Central Park West is shocking residents due to the scary random attack outside the park.
According to police, the incident happened on April 2, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. near Central Park West and West 100th Street within the confines of the 24 Precinct.
Investigators say a 71-year-old woman was walking in the area when she was suddenly approached by an unidentified woman who allegedly slapped her in the face before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police said the victim suffered pain and swelling as a result of the attack but declined medical attention at the scene.
Authorities are now searching for the suspect and have released a description in hopes that someone from the public may recognize her.
The individual wanted for questioning is described as a female with a dark complexion. She was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, red pants, and sunglasses.
The case is drawing attention as another example of elderly assault incidents in Manhattan neighborhoods that continue to concern residents across New York City. Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who recognizes the suspect to come forward.
The assault reportedly occurred during the early evening hours in a busy section of the Upper West Side, an area frequently traveled by residents, commuters, and visitors heading near Central Park. Police believe additional witnesses may have seen the suspect fleeing eastbound on Central Park West after the confrontation.
Officials have not yet announced any arrests connected to the incident.
