NEW YORK, NY - A visitor's late-night walk back to his hotel following Game 3 of the NBA Final turned violent after he was allegedly attacked and robbed by a group of individuals near Times Square in Manhattan.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on June 9, 2026, following the conclusion of the NY Knicks loss to the San Antonio Spurs during Game 3 of the NBA Finals. When a 39-year-old man was walking to his hotel in the area of West 47th Street. Authorities say the victim was in front of 306 West 47 Street at approximately 12:17 a.m. when a group of unidentified individuals approached him.
Investigators reported that the individuals surrounded the victim before allegedly punching and kicking him multiple times. During the attack, the suspects forcibly removed a black San Antonio Spurs #21 basketball jersey that the victim was wearing.
The violent encounter highlights ongoing concerns about street robberies and group assaults in busy tourist areas of Manhattan, particularly during overnight hours when pedestrian traffic is lower.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained lacerations to his face as well as bruising to his body. EMS responded to the scene and transported the injured man to Mount Sinai West Hospital for treatment.
Police said the victim was listed in stable condition following the incident.
Following the attack, the group fled the scene on foot and traveled in an unknown direction. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are continuing efforts to identify and locate those responsible.
At this time, authorities have not released descriptions of the suspects.
