MANHATTAN - Cops say they have arrested a homeless man for the subway slashing in which an elderly man was slashed in the head and ear on the Number 6 train.

The NYPD announced the arrested of Sergio Garvin, 42, who is homeless. He has been charged with assault.

At around 3 am on December 8, a 66-year-old man was on board a southbound Number 6 train. As the train approached the 33rd Street and Park Avenue Station, a man in a brown coat with fur hood and wearing a black mask approached him. Without a word or warning he pulled out a sharp object and slashed the straphanger in the head and ear.

When the train stopped at the station the attacker jumped off and fled to the street above.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
