Arrest Made in Crowbar Attack on Turkish Consulate

MANHATTAN - Police have made an arrest in the crowbar attack on the Turkish Consulate. The attacker busted out 10 windows to the consulate using a crowbar. 




Police arrested 29-year-old Recep Akbiyik of Brooklyn. He was charged with attempted burglary, two counts of criminal posession of a weapon, making terroristic threats, criminal mischief and two counts of menacing. 




At around 3 am on May 22, a man walked up to the Turkish Consulate on 1st Avenue, across the street from the United Nations headquarters. The man swung the crowbar into numerous windows causing them to shatter. 




No one was injured in the attack. 




After knocking out the windows, the suspect fled southbound on 1st Avenue.
