MANHATTAN - Police are searching for the man who shoved a woman head first into a moving subway train in an apparent random attack on Lexington Avenue. The victim is in critical condition and is being treated for spinal injuries.

At around 6 am yesterday, a 35-year-old woman was walking on the southbound platform of the “E” train at the Lexington Avenue/63rd Street Station. Suddenly a man ran up to her and shoved her from behind. The woman slammed head first into the subway car of an E train departing the station.

The shover ran up the stairs and was last seen heading toward the Second Avenue exit.

The victim was rushed by EMS to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition. She is being treated for lacerations to the head and spinal injuries.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect whose demeanor at the time gave no indication of the violence he is accused of committing. The suspect is seen on video sipping his coffee and waiting for a train. He was not seen shouting or rambling to himself as has been the case in previous random subway shovings.

The suspect is described as a man with a light complexion, approximately 30 to 40 years of age. He is 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 7 feet tall.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
