MANHATTAN - A mother and her 2-year-old son are recovering after being struck by a hit-and-run driver riding an e-bike near City Hall, cops say. Investigators believe the suspect is a food delivery driver.
At around 8:30 am on June 17, a 42-year-old woman was pushing her 2-year-old son in a stroller at the intersection of Park Place and Broadway, across from City Hall Park. Cops say the mom had the right of way and was crossing the intersection when she was struck by an e-bike heading south on Broadway.
The impact knocked over the stroller and threw the child to the ground, cops said.
According to investigators, the man picked himself up, remounted his bike and drove off without checking on the mom and son or exchanging information regarding the accident. Instead cops say he fled the scene of the accident.
The mother and son were taken by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue. Both are listed in stable condition.
Cops said the rider of the e-bike is believed to be food delivery driver possibly with Grubhub.
Police released surveillance video of the suspect seen on the e-bike. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and had a delivery bag on the back of the e-bike.
