MANHATTAN - A security guard is recovering after being slashed in the face when he tried to stop a shoplifter at an Upper East Side CVS, cops said.

At around 11:30 pm on June 19, a man wearing a face mask, Du-Rag and backpack walked into the CVS at 305 East 86 Street. Cops said the man then removed toiletry items that were on display and shoved them into his brown backpack.

As the shoplifter tried to exit the store, the manager and a 62-year-old security guard tried to confront him. Cops said the suspect then pulled out a knife and slashed the security guard across the left side of his face causing a large laceration.

The attacker then took off in an unknown direction.

The bleeding security guard was rushed to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was treated and is in stable condition.

Cops said the value of the stolen toiletries is $383.

Police released surveillance video from the store at the time of the theft and assault. The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion who is between the ages of 30 and 40 and has a medium build.

He was last seen wearing a black long sleeve sweater with white and red lettering in the front of it, dark gray pants, black sneakers, multi-color Du-rag, blue face mask and carrying a brown book bag.
