NEW YORK - A Manhattan jury stunned the world with an $83 Million verdict against Donald Trump in a defamation case. Trump remained defiant and posted a response on social media.
The jury deliberated in under 3 hours finding that Trump defamed E. Jean Carroll by calling her a liar after a jury last year found him liable of sexual assaulting the advice columnist sometime in the 1990s.
Carroll had originally asked for $10 million. The jury instead award $83 million: $7.3 million for pain and suffering; $11 million to “rebuild Carroll’s reputation” and $65 million in punitive damages.
The huge verdict did not deter Trump or his legal team who vowed to appeal the decision.
Following the verdict Trump took to Truth Social: “Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!”
Legal experts on various channels believe Trump will appeal a verdict against him on the grounds that he was limited in his defense. Yesterday Trump testified for just 3 minutes in his defense. The judge had limited his responses and questions posed, published reports claim.
Following the verdict Trump Attorney Alina Habba said she would immediately appeal the ruling. The lawyer claimed that the judge demanded to know her questions for the former president before he testified in his defense. She claims that the judge then limited even further Trump’s answers when he was on the stand.
Last year, Trump was found guilty by a Manhattan jury of sexual abuse and defamation of Carroll.
During the trial Trump spoke out saying “I never met this woman.”
