MANHATTAN - The NYPD has released the name and photo of a man wanted in the attempted sexual assaults of two women in the Union Square area on New Year’s Eve.
At around 10 am on December 31, a 21-year-old woman was walking in the vicinity of 16th Street and 5th Avenue. Cops said a man grabbed her from behind and attempted to drag her to a secluded area. The victim was able to break free and fled. The attacker then ran away.
Two hours later, cops said the same man struck again. A 24-year-old woman was in the restroom in the vicinity of 14th Street and 5th Avenue. Cops said the man forced his way into the restroom and tried to remove the victim’s clothes. The victim broke free and escaped the restroom.
The attacker then fled on foot on 5th Avenue.
Using a photo apparently taken near one of the sites of the incidents, police identified the suspect and have a name. The NYPD is searching for 23-year-old Christopher Marrero.
