MANHATTAN - The NYPD is searching for a masked attacker who sucker punched a police officer during a pro-Palestine protest near City Hall. This is the second such attack on a cop during a protest near City Hall.
At around 8:30 pm on February 29, police were conducting crowd control during a pro-Palestinian protest at Ann Street and Broadway near City Hall. Cops said a person dressed in black and donning a black mask walked up behind a police officer and punched him in the back. The attacker then ran away.
Investigators just released a photo of the masked suspect.
One week earlier an officer was struck with a bottle during a protest on the opposite side of City Hall. On March 8, cops tried to disperse a disorderly group in the rear of One Police Plaza. As cops tried to disperse the crowd, a woman threw a bottle striking a police officer in the head, the NYPD said.
Published reports claim the suspect was part of a group that splintered off from the larger pro-Palestinian protest on Park Row and Pearl Street, not far from police headquarters.
The video also shows the suspect apparently wearing the black-and-white keffiyeh around her neck - a symbol of support for the Palestinian cause.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
