According to investigators, the attack happened around 1 a.m. on West 49th Street and Seventh Avenue. The victim was repeatedly stabbed in the back and also suffered a wound to his right thigh. First responders rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Detectives believe the stabbing wasn’t random. Instead, they think it may have been part of an ongoing dispute—one that might have played out across several blocks before ending in violence. At this point, though, they haven’t made any arrests, and the search for the suspect continues.
This fatal stabbing is the second homicide in the Midtown North precinct in just two days. Early Sunday morning, 39-year-old Gibson Winters—who had been released from federal prison three years ago—was shot and killed outside a nightclub in Hell’s Kitchen. No arrests have been made in that case either, leaving investigators with two major crimes to untangle in the same neighborhood.
Police are asking anyone with information about either incident to come forward as they work to piece together what led to the deadly attacks.
