The NYPD is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect wanted in an armed robbery at the Grand Street subway station on the B/D line in Lower Manhattan.

According to police, the incident occurred late Friday night, January 9, 2026, at approximately 11:05 p.m., inside the Grand Street and Christie Street subway station on the B/D line, which falls within the 5th Precinct and Transit District 4.
What Happened at the Grand Street Subway Station
Authorities say a 35-year-old man was exiting the station when he was approached from behind by an unidentified male suspect. The suspect allegedly displayed a firearm and demanded the victim’s property, a frightening encounter that unfolded in just moments.
Fearing for his safety, the victim complied and handed over his watch, necklace, and bracelet, items police estimate to be worth approximately $2,400. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, heading in an unknown direction.
Police confirmed that no injuries were reported, but the investigation remains active.
Suspect Description Released by NYPD
The NYPD has released images of the individual and is urging anyone with information to come forward. The suspect is described as:
- Male
- Dark complexion
- Approximately 18 to 25 years old
- Thin build
- Last seen wearing:
- Red hoodie sweatshirt
- Black jacket
- Red sweatpants
- White and black sneakers
Surveillance images of the suspect are available through DCPI, and detectives believe public recognition could be key to solving this case.
Subway robberies involving firearms are treated as a top priority by transit and precinct detectives. Police say even small details — such as recognizing clothing, posture, or movement — can help identify a suspect.
