NEW YORK, NY – A woman narrowly escaped being struck by an oncoming subway train after a mugger punched her, stole her backpack, and pushed her towards an oncoming train at the 125th Street subway station in Manhattan during morning rush hour.
The shocking incident is being investigated as a Manhattan assault and robbery.
At approximately 8:45 a.m. on October 28, a 31-year-old woman was standing on the northbound platform of the Number 6 train at the 125th Street station when a man suddenly approached her from behind.
The suspect punched the woman in the back, grabbed her backpack, and then pushed her toward an oncoming train as it entered the station.
According to police, the victim narrowly avoided being struck by the train in what could have been a deadly subway assault in Manhattan.
After pushing the woman toward the tracks, the attacker reportedly jumped aboard the same Number 6 train that nearly hit her and fled the scene.
The NYPD has released surveillance video showing the suspect inside the train as detectives investigate the Manhattan subway robbery and assault.
Police describe the suspect as a male with a dark complexion, heavy build, and beard. He was last seen wearing a dark blue coat, black knit cap, and dark jeans. He was also carrying a backpack.
