MANHATTAN - A police officer is recovering from a broken leg after being run over by a moped while attempting to catch a thief, the NYPD said.


Surveillance video of the suspect has been released by the NYPD of the man they are searching for in the assault on an officer.


At around 2:30 pm on November 30, an officer was apprehending a suspect in connection with the theft of a moped. As the officer was pursuing the suspect in the vicinity of Riverside Drive and West 83 Street, a second man on a moped struck the officer.


Cops said the second suspect hit the officer from behind and ran over the officer on purpose.


The attacker rode off northbound on Riverside Drive. The original suspect the cop was chasing ran away on foot through Riverside Park.


The officer was rushed to an area hospital. The cop suffered a broken leg in the attack.


The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion and medium build. He was last seen wearing a grey bubble jacket with a black hoodie underneath.
