MANHATTAN - A Bronx man is facing charges in the alleged attempted sexual assaults on women on New Year’s Eve in the Union Square area.
The NYPD announced the arrest of 23-year-old Christopher Marrero. The suspect lives across the street from Crotona Park in the Bronx. Marrero was charged with sex abuse, two counts of attempted sex abuse, attempted rape, three counts of unlawful imprisonment and two counts of stalking.
At around 10 am on December 31, a 21-year-old woman was walking in the vicinity of 16th Street and 5th Avenue. Cops said a man grabbed her from behind and attempted to drag her to a secluded area. The victim was able to break free and fled. The attacker then ran away.
Two hours later, cops said the same man struck again. A 24-year-old woman was in the restroom in the vicinity of 14th Street and 5th Avenue. Cops said the man forced his way into the restroom and tried to remove the victim’s clothes. The victim broke free and escaped the restroom.
The attacker then fled on foot on 5th Avenue.
Using a photo apparently taken near one of the sites of the incidents, police identified the suspect and found a name.
