MANHATTAN - A Times Square pickpocket threw a straphanger down a flight of stairs at the subway station and then stole the victim’s $6,000 watch, cops said.
At around 4:30 pm on February 20, a 59-year-old man exited a train and was climbing the stairs at the Times Square Station. Cops said a man approached the straphanger from behind and reached into his pocket.
The victim turned around and confronted the pickpocket and a struggle ensured. Cops said the pickpocket then pushed the man down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, the attacker removed $1,000 cash off the victim and then pulled a Cartier watch off the victim’s wrist, cops said.
The watch is valued at $6,000, the NYPD said.
The victim took himself to a doctor by private means.
The attacker ran out of the station in an unknown direction but not before his image was captured on subway surveillance cameras.
The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black face mask, blue jeans and red and white sneakers.
