MANHATTAN - Cops nabbed the suspect wanted in the brutal beating that put a 91-year-old man in the hospital.
The NYPD announced the arrest of 45-year-old Christian Torres of Brooklyn. He was charged with attempted robbery.
NYPD officials said Torres was recognized by officers in Harlem. The suspect had just exited the Number 6 train when officers recognized Torres from the wanted posters.
NYPD officials say Torres has multiple prior arrests.
At around 10:30 am on February 1, a 91-year-old man, Hyman Silverglad, was walking in front of 350 East 86th Street on the Upper East Side. Cops said a man ran up to the senior and pushed Silverglad to the ground. The attacker then began punching the senior as he struggled laying on the sidewalk.
The attacker then tried to remove the victim’s wallet but left empty handed. Silverglad, later spoke to the press from his hospital bed. The 91-year-old suffered six bone fractures and a fracture at the bottom of his spine.
Silverglad is battling kidney failure and cancer.
Cops said at the time of the mugging, Torres was on post-supervision release from prison after serving from January 2022 until April 2023 for robbery conviction.
Previously he served time for 1998 arson in the Bronx.
Investigators said the motive for the attack on Silverglad was robbery.
