‘Pumpkin’ Robs Check Cashing Store in Gramercy

A man wearing a bright orange hoodie attempted to rob a Gramercy check cashing store. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Manhattan Voice  October 4, 2023 NEW YORK - Police are searching for a suspect dressed in a pumpkin-colored hoodie who allegedly robbed a Gramercy check cashing store. At around 7:30 am September 9, a man dressed in a bright orange hoodie walked into a check cashing store on East 29th Street. Cops said the man walked up to the counter and handed the 30-year-old female employee a note demanding cash and simulated having a weapon. The clerk was unable to gain access to the cash and the robber left empty handed. The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion and heavy build. He was last seen wearing a bright orange hoodie, black pants and white sneakers. Colorado Man Nabbed in Chinatown Car Shooting

Cops made an arrest in the Chinatown shooting. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Manhattan Voice October 3, 2023 NEW YORK - A Colorado man was arrested in connection with a shooting in Chinatown in which the victim was shot in the face.  Police announced the arrest of 24-year-old Khalil Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. 

‘Pom Pom’ Gunman Opens Fire Outside Park

Police are searching for a man with red pom poms in his hair in connection witih a shooting. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Manhattan Voice October 2, 2023 NEW YORK - Police are looking for a man whose hair was in red pom poms who is suspected of opening fire outside a park.  Cops are hoping an alleged gunman’s unique hair doo will lead to the suspect’s arrest.  Police released surveillance video of the suspect who sported a unique look. The suspect has a thick black beard and wore his hair up in two pom poms that were red and black bun in the back.  At around 8:30 pm on August 16, a man approached a group of people standing in front of 2296 Amsterdam Avenue- directly across the street from Highbridge Park. Cops said the man with the red pom pom hair pulled out a gun and opened fire.  The gunman was seen fleeing on foot northbound on Amsterdam Avenue.  Cops said no injuries were reported.  The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion and slim build. 'Congestion Pricing' Tolls One Step Closer to Reality

The Manhattan Voice discovered the new overhead tolls at Park Avenue and on York Avenue, between East 60th and East 61 Streets in Manhattan. The overhead cameras will scan a car's Easy Pass or snap a photo of the vehicle's license plate and will send a driver a bill in the mail. Details are still being worked out but it is expected that beginning January 1, drivers will be charged between $9 and $23 between peak hours entering Lower Manhattan.  One proposal would give individuals earning less than $

Reaching Out to Stop Street Harassment

Free Resource Guide on How to Prevent and Respond to Street Harassment Available to New Yorkers   NEW YORK - The Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board (SHPAB), launched a citywide outreach effort to conduct a survey on the nature, prevalence, and impact of street harassment on New Yorkers.  The SHPAB is co-chaired by the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) and the New York City Commission on Gender Equity (CGE). CGE sits within the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity (MOE). The SHPAB was established by Local Law 46 of 2022 to study and raise awareness of street harassment and to develop resources for survivors and bystand ers.  This survey will help the advisory board better understand how and where New Yorkers experience street harassment, identify people and communities most at risk, and understand what kind of prevention, education, and training resources city agencies, community members, and individuals can utilize to address this f
