NEW YORK - Drivers can begin to brace themselves as they are about to get hit with new 'congestion pricing' tolls for drivers entering Lower Manhattan as the Department of Transportation work crews have begun installing them in midtown Manhattan.

The Manhattan Voice discovered the new overhead tolls at Park Avenue and on York Avenue, between East 60th and East 61 Streets in Manhattan. The overhead cameras will scan a car's Easy Pass or snap a photo of the vehicle's license plate and will send a driver a bill in the mail.

Details are still being worked out but it is expected that beginning January 1, drivers will be charged between $9 and $23 between peak hours entering Lower Manhattan.

One proposal would give individuals earning less than $60,000 per year a tax credit at the end of the year.
