Reaching Out to Stop Street Harassment

Free Resource Guide on How to Prevent and Respond to Street Harassment Available to New Yorkers   NEW YORK - The Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board (SHPAB), launched a citywide outreach effort to conduct a survey on the nature, prevalence, and impact of street harassment on New Yorkers.  The SHPAB is co-chaired by the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) and the New York City Commission on Gender Equity (CGE). CGE sits within the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity (MOE). The SHPAB was established by Local Law 46 of 2022 to study and raise awareness of street harassment and to develop resources for survivors and bystand ers.  This survey will help the advisory board better understand how and where New Yorkers experience street harassment, identify people and communities most at risk, and understand what kind of prevention, education, and training resources city agencies, community members, and individuals can utilize to address this f

Police are searching for this man in connection with a hit and run which left a pedestrian with a fractured skull. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Manhattan Voice September 27, 2023 NEW YORK - Police released new video of a man suspected of running over a pedestrian while riding a Citi E-bike and kept going. The victim suffered a fractured skull in the accident.  At around 12:30 pm on September 21, a man was walking in the vicinity of 5th  Avenue and East 21st Street in the Flatiron District. As the pedestrian attempted to cross the street he was struck by a man riding a Citi E-bike. The victim was slammed to the floor.  The bike rider rode off without stopping, cops said.  The victim suffered a fractured skull, fractured right eye and bruising to the body.  Police released surveillance video from the scene which captured the suspect riding the bike.  The suspect is described as male with a light complexion. Subway Sex Fiend Slams Woman’s Head at Union Square Station

Police are looking for this man in connection with a vicious sexual assault at the Union Square subway station. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Manhattan Voice September 26, 2023 NEW YORK - A Good Samaritan stopped a vicious attack on a woman from getting worse by chasing off a man who was sexually assaulting her after slamming her head to the ground at the Union Square subway station, cops said.   At around 3:25 am on September 24, a 24-year-old woman was waiting for the northbound N Train at the 14th Street/Union Square subway station. Cops said a man walked up to the woman and grabbed her breast. As the woman tried to walk away the attacker shoved his hands down her pants and groped her.   As the victim tried to fend the attacker off, the man forced her to the ground. He then slammed the woman’s head on the concrete floor of the station and continued to grope her.  Cops said a Good Samaritan saw the assault and intervened, chasing the attacker off.
