MANHATTAN - Another straphanger was attacked in the subway during an early morning ride on the West Side. The victim was sucker punched and knocked to the ground while his attacker rifled through his pockets.
At around 1 am on November 22, a 47-year-old man was waiting for the Number 1 train at the West 50th Street and Broadway station when a man approached him.
Unprovoked he punched the straphanger in the head causing him to fall to the ground. While the victim lay sprawled out on the floor of the platform, the attacker riffled through his pockets looking for cash.
After snatching the victim’s cellphone he ran off and out of the subway.
The victim grabbed a cab and went to a local hospital to be treated for swelling and bruising to the head.
Police released surveillance photos of the suspect entering by the turnstiles to the station prior to the attack.
The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion and a thin mustache. Cops say he is 20 years old, 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with gray stars on the chest and a gray hoodie underneath.
