Female Jogger Sexually Assaulted in Riverside Park

MANHATTAN - A woman jogging in Riverside Park was sexually assaulted by a man who tried to rape her, cops said. The woman’s screams scared him off.
At around 10 pm on July 18, a woman was jogging on the bike path of Riverside Park at West 89th Street. As the 38-year-old was jogging a man rode up next to her on a bicycle.
Cops said the man grabbed the jogger, threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her by groping the woman. As the attacker tried to remove the woman’s shorts she screamed. Cops said the attacker was startled by the screaming and was scared off. He then hopped back on his bike and rode off.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and was treated for minor bruises and scratches throughout the body.
The suspect is described as a man with a light complexion who is between the ages of 30 and 40. He is also said to be around 5 foot 6 inches tall.
The suspect was last seen wearing a red sports jersey with a number "40" on the back. The attacker was riding on a dark colored bicycle.
No surveillance video has been released at this time.
