NEW YORK - A 70-year-old man is recovering after being punched in the head by a mugger inside a subway station near Herald Square, cops said. Surveillance video shows a suspect who looks more like a middle aged man heading into the office rather than a man accused of being a vicious mugger.
At around 11 am on October 10, the 70 year-old was exiting a Northbound N train at the West 32nd Street and Broadway subway station. As he walked across the platform, a middle aged man wearing a beige sweatshirt and had a work bag slung over his shoulder approached the senior.
Cops said without warning the man began punching the senior in the head and throughout the body, forcing the elderly man to the ground. The attacker then riffled through the victim’s pockets and forcibly removed $200 cash. Before fleeing, the attacker kicked the victim’s cellphone onto the subway tracks.
The victim was treated for his injuries.
The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion who looks middle aged. He is 5 foot 6 and has a medium build. He was last seen wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers, and carrying a black backpack over his right shoulder.
