MANHATTAN - A straphanger was slashed inside an “A” train by a man who shouted homophobic remarks during an unprovoked attack, the NYPD said.
At around 11 pm on March 1, a 27-year-old man was riding the A Train approached 34th Street Penn Station. Cops said unprovoked, another man approached him and made anti-LGBTQ statements.
The attacker then pulled out a box cutter and went after the straphanger. The victim put up his hands to stop the blow and was slashed on his left hand.
Cops said the victim fled the train at the station seeking help but the attacker remained on the train. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated.
The NYPD released a cell phone photo of the suspect apparently taken by another subway rider.
The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion and a medium build. He was last seen wearing a gray winter coat with a tan furry hood. He wore a burgundy hoodie underneath his coat and a black knitted cap.
