MANHATTAN - Cops are looking for a man who tried to to set an Israeli flag on fire in broad daylight outside a Manhattan bagel shop. When the flag wouldn’t catch fire the arsonist pulled it down.
At around 3 pm on February 24, a man walked up to a kosher bagel shop at 2547 Amsterdam Avenue across the street from the Yeshiva University High School for Boys. Surveillance video captures the man hop on a table, and try to ignite an aerosol can to try to use it to burn the Israeli-American flag outside the bagel shop. When the can would not ignite like a blow torch, the firebug pulled the flag down to the floor and ran off. He then hopped into a black sedan and drove off down Amsterdam Avenue.
The case is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force.
The NYPD released surveillance video from outside the store. The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion who is between the ages of 18 and 25. He is 5 foot 6, has a slim build and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white sneakers.
