MANHATTAN - The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in trying to catch the sicko who slashed a man in his eye on New Year’s Eve. Investigators believe the vicious beating and slashing was an unprovoked attack.
The NYPD just released new surveillance video of a man suspected of beating and slashing a man during a random attack.
At around 10:30 am on December 31, a 52-year-old man was standing in front of a Chinese Takeout restaurant at 2038 Amsterdam Avenue. Cops said a man dressed in black ran up to him and struck the victim in the back of the head with a bottle. Then the attacker began repeatedly punching the victim.
Cops said the attacker then pulled out a box cutter and slashed the victim across his right eye.
The attacker ran away in an unknown direction.
EMS rushed the victim to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center where he was treated for a laceration to his eye as well as bruising throughout the body. He was listed in stable condition.
Investigators do not have a motive for the vicious attack and believe it was random.
The NYPD released the new video of the suspect.
The alleged attacker is described as a male with a dark complexion and medium build. He is believed to be between the ages of 40 and 50. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue ripped jeans, multi-color sneakers, black hat with the letter "VA" in the front and carrying a black book bag.
