MANHATTAN - A wellness check on a Kips Bay woman led cops and family members to a gruesome discovery - her body stuffed inside a bag in the apartment, the NYPD said. The discovery is eerily reminiscent of last week’s Bronx dismemberment case.

At around 4:30 pm on March 14, cops from the 17th Precinct responding to a wellness check proceeded to Nadia Vital’s  apartment at 206 East 31st Street in Kips Bay. The family had called police when they had not heard from Nadia for several days.

Inside a closet in the apartment cops discovered a large bag. Peering inside the bag, cops found Vital’s body. It was not apparent what was the cause of the 52-year-old’s death. The Medical Examiner is investigating.

The discovery of Vital is eerily reminiscent of last week’s arrest in the murder of 44-year-old Collin Small. Cops in the Bronx had been called on a wellness check for Small. There cop’s found Small’s body stuffed inside a plastic bin inside the apartment.

Sheldon Johnson was arrested for the murder of Small less than 24-hours after Small’s dismembered body was found.

Vital was found whole inside the bag. It is unclear how she died.

Investigators would not comment on a motive or a cause of death for Vital. The investigation is ongoing.
