Follow @Bronxvoice1MANHATTAN - A Good Samaritan who tried to help his friend died after being sucker punched by a moped driver who struck a man on the sidewalk, cops said.
A Brooklyn man died as a result of his injuries suffered during defended his friend. Florian Oltmann, 38, died yesterday as a result of his injuries suffered on July 26.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has classified the cause of death as a homicide.
At around 2:40 am on July 22, a man was riding a moped on the sidewalk in front of 627 9th Avenue. The moped driver bumped into a 56-year-old man who was standing in front of a bar at the location.
Cops said the man confronted the moped driver and that’s when things got heated. The driver began arguing with the pedestrian. Suddenly the driver sucker punched the pedestrian knocking him to the ground unconscious.
Cops said the victim’s friend, Oltmann tried to intervene. The driver then punched the Good Samaritan in the face knocking him unconscious.
The attacker then hopped back on his moped and drove away.
The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect who was seen driving a black moped.
